Petar Vitanov: There will be a quick centrifuge for immunities in the Bulgarian parliament as well

/Pogled.info/ An attempt was made to silence Ivan Geshev’s hearing, the socialist claims

What Ivan Geshev will say is important, because he is part of the judicial system, which has been seen to be entangled in heavy addictions. This was said by the head of the Delegation of the Bulgarian Socialists in the EP, Petar Vitanov, to the BNR the day after the hearing of the Prosecutor General. According to Vitanov, a serious attempt was made not to have such a hearing, and the pressure came from Sofia.

“You can’t accuse us of a change in behaviour, I remember the consistency with which we have dealt with this issue, at least the majority of our party. I give the example of Yanaki Stoilov, who in his capacity as Minister of Justice started a removal procedure a year ago, then Krum Zarkov, also in his capacity as Minister of Justice, proposed all the texts on the mechanism for control over the activities of the chief prosecutor”, commented Petar Vitanov.

However, the socialist is surprised by the metamorphoses of his colleagues.

“What happened yesterday was also surprising for us, because an attempt was apparently made to silence this hearing, an attempt that I have no doubt started from Sofia”, he commented on the occasion of yesterday’s hearing of Ivan Geshev in Strasbourg.

“Bulgarian society clearly understands that there are no good and bad. What we have seen in recent weeks does not look like a search for justice, but for revenge. It is too far from judicial reform. The session of the SJC on Monday, which in vulgarity surpassed even voyeuristic television programs, left that desperate feeling that the entire judicial system is so dependent, so usurped by one or two political figures, that the overthrow of Geshev cannot be perceived as a judicial reform. Vitanov said.

“I admit that even the desire to feel some form of sympathy for Geshev has to do with people’s feeling that he is one of the system. That it is beginning to expose things that we, the people who deal professionally with politics, have suspected for years,” he added.

According to Petar Vitanov, the last 10 years seem to have come full circle.

“Some people’s careers were launched by opposing the key figures of the DPS. Today, these same people rule together and will write a constitution together,” he stated.

The MEP also commented on the intention to create a committee on the immunities of the people’s representatives.

“What is happening in Bulgaria is nothing more than running a fast centrifuge in the parliament. It follows the logic of the recordings we heard two weeks ago. Of course, a model will be sought to justify this type of action. In the EP, there is a different approach – a large number of people voluntarily grant themselves immunity, which is actually the practice in Bulgaria as well. We had such a practice for 30 years without forming special committees,” he said.

Vitanov said that as a socialist he feels better that the BSP is not participating in the current government.

“Such a coalition does not correspond at all to the vision of the left-wing people in Bulgaria and would aim to serve a few people closely within the party. From that point of view, we were spared the humiliation. It is currently on the backs of GERB’s electorate, but mostly those of PP-DB”, he also commented.
