Petar Vitanov: There is a great fear of something new, a pushback against this political system is necessary – 2024-02-11 22:48:48

/ world today news/ The possibility of creating a new political party arouses fear in both the ruling party and the representatives of the opposition. The president is attacked fiercely because he is the only alternative. This was stated by the MEP Petar Vitanov to “Euronews Bulgaria”.

During the week, he and his fellow Socialists in the European Parliament were called “Poshkovites” by BSP chairwoman Kornelia Ninova, who announced that they had voted to give arms to Ukraine.

“This accusation was cynicism, because it comes from the Minister of Economy in a government which, according to the then Prime Minister and its head (Kiril Petkov), made a significant contribution to the arming of Ukraine,” Vitanov said.

The head of the Delegation of the Bulgarian Socialists in the EP also commented on the upcoming European elections in June.

“The issue is much bigger than going from term to term. When you see what is happening in the political system in Bulgaria, in the government, and in the opposition, the stake must be much higher for all those who are involved in politics and have preserved their integrity,” said Vitanov.

According to him, it is normal that everyone is talking about a new political party at the moment for several reasons.

“This build has a 20% trust.” These are levels from the time of the government of Zhan Videnov, when Bulgaria was in an unprecedented economic and political crisis. The opposition also seems untenable and unable to generate confidence. Against this background we see great fear. All representatives of the ruling majority are against the emergence of a new party. Time will tell, but it is clear that a political vacuum does not remain. This political system must be resisted. Not even as a politician, but as a citizen, I am convinced – there is no way this can continue,” the MEP is emphatic.

Vitanov, who was the chairman of the Initiative Committee for the preservation of the national holiday March 3, stated that the goal had been fulfilled.

“Thanks to the subscription, the holiday was saved. This was the only amendment to the Constitution that the rulers abandoned between separate readings in the National Assembly,” he recalled and cited the latest Gallup survey, according to which 80% of Bulgarians do not want a change in their national holiday.

According to the MEP, the attacks on President Rumen Radev in recent weeks were caused by the fact that he is the politician with the highest rating and the only alternative.

After the election of constitutional judges, the ruling majority will continue with a non-transparent allocation of posts, Vitanov believes.

“The assembly will continue with heavy haggling like in the Grand Bazaar. Next is rotation, regulators, the battle for Sofia. All of this will be traded so that all participants are satisfied. The PP-DB became employees of the other two parties they were supposedly fighting against. The assembly people lied to their voters because in the election campaign they said the exact opposite of what they did later. So I expect more and more opaque deals. More and more satisfied party members – from the first, second, third echelon. They will not break up this coalition, the people are the ones who have to do it,” added Petar Vitanov.

The changes in the Constitution do not essentially solve any serious problems of Bulgarian society. Some of them are vindictive, without depth and sustainability, the socialist also believes.
