/ world today news/ Only a strong BSP can end the political crisis in the country. This was commented by the MEP and member of the National Council of the party Petar Vitanov before the BNR on the eve of the congress. Vitanov shared his expectations for the forum on Saturday.
“There are two groups – one that believes that there is a serious problem with the left, related to its future survival and another that will try to lead the congress through a peaceful channel and talk about constitutional changes that are totally inadequate to the times and the space,” Vitanov said.
When asked whether there could be an item for a change of leadership at the congress, even though it is not on the agenda, Petar Vitanov answered: “The Congress is the supreme body that can change both the agenda and the debate. His solutions are of the highest value, so I expect this issue to be raised. This congress is significant not only for the BSP, but also for the future of the country. Only a strong BSP can solve the political crisis”.
According to Vitanov, the current state of the left does not allow it to be a serious factor in Bulgarian politics.
“With the result we are achieving, we have gone from being a first-rate political player to a second-rate power. With a score of 9 percent, there is no way to enforce your policy. So the first and most important question is how the party can be changed in order to gain trust,” said Vitanov.
“In order not to turn the BSP into a political semi-finished product, these measures go through a change in leadership. Through the policy carriers. Management is an exhausting process. Even if today’s BSP leadership offers Woodrow Wilson’s 14 points for peace in the First World War, no one will pay attention to it. We need shock therapy for the BSP,” the MEP believes.
Petar Vitanov also commented on the criticism that the issue of leadership is being raised at the threshold of new elections.
“The elections are in four months. Now new pre-terms are coming, after them maybe some more, and then local ones. So we cannot equate changes in the party with the constant cycle of elections. The sooner we make the change, the better. People need to see hope. This is the political logic,” he added.
In his capacity as an MEP, Petar Vitanov noted the good reaction of Bulgaria, which provided timely assistance to Turkey after the deadly earthquake. The socialist is of the opinion that our country has demonstrated solidarity and has shown itself to be a good neighbor by being ahead of other EU countries in its actions.
