Petar Vitanov: My exclusion is political repression, I will apply to become a member of the German Social Democratic Party – 2024-02-22 06:42:22

/ world today news/ My exclusion from BSP is political repression. It was long considered by the leadership, after together with Stanislav Vladimirov and Krum Zarkov we started tours in Bulgaria with the hope of breathing new life into the party. This is what MEP Petar Vitanov told BNR. Two days ago, the group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats confirmed that he remains in it, as he was also supported by the Bulgarian socialists in the EP. Vitanov retains his position as head of the Delegation.

“For years, the BSP has had a badly damaged international image. Congress’ messages about gender ideology and support for the Euro referendum make matters worse. The elections for the European Parliament are just a year and a half away, and the anti-European character that the BSP is beginning to acquire seriously worries our partners,” said Vitanov.

According to him, there will always be more radical parties than the BSP, so with this policy it will not be able to win voters in our country either.

“These are Stalinist methods – there is no person, there is no problem. We feel part of the Bulgarian left regardless of the decision, which was – first unconstitutional, and then achieved through falsification,” said Vitanov.

He also denied the accusations that clientelists were excluded from the BSP and asked if they were the “members of the youth association or the professors” who were on the list.

“Did they vote for the chairman of the NA from GERB, for the paper ballot or for the change of the head of the Audit Chamber. This is an elementary attempt to denigrate these young boys and girls,” answered Vitanov to another accusation – of collaboration with GERB.

The MEP specified that a confrontation at the Congress was not sought intentionally, but it started with tension – changing delegates, enumerators, security at the entrance.

“There was nothing premeditated. We wanted to get to a working microphone because they were shut down. Then an occasion was found for us to go on the stage. We were excluded selectively, by photo. I was looking for an occasion, they tried to do it a day earlier. And it is my fault and sin that I criticize the leadership. But I do it for reasons of principle. I categorically did not try to violate the public order,” Vitanov also said.

“We are united by concern, concern for an organization to which we have belonged for generations. We may have a number of differences on a number of issues and that has been the BSP’s asset, but the core values are the same,” he added.

According to Vitanov, a continuous war is being waged against those from the BSP, who nearly two years ago raised the question of the party’s leadership and the constantly eroding trust and results.

“This was a completely tendentious attitude against a group of young people – against me, Krum (Zarkov – note ed.), Stanislav (Vladimirov – note ed.) who allowed themselves to start a conversation about the future of the party. They dealt with me politically, it was a pure form of political repression. They knew that Stanislav would react this way, and Krum satanized him from morning to night. They are trying to eliminate anyone who wants to change the current status quo,” said Vitanov, adding that this will not stop them from fighting for a new and modern left.

Temporarily, Petar Vitanov has decided to become a member of the German Social Democratic Party until his membership in the BSP is restored. He described this decision as symbolic.
