/ world today news/ The personality of the Bulgarian European Commissioner Maria Gabriel has nothing to do with support for a government, the BSP has no place in a right-wing cabinet. The leader of the Bulgarian Socialists in the European Parliament, Petar Vitanov, was categorical about this before the BNR.
“For the right-wing political forces, Mrs. Maria Gabriel is probably a good candidate. We know each other, we work together, we cooperate with her, she is cooperative. This is probably an application that seeks to strengthen Bulgaria’s international partnerships. But the personality of Mrs. Maria Gabriel has nothing to do with possible support for such a government on the part of the socialist party. We must be neither a fifth wheel nor a fig leaf. Maybe it’s tempting for some people to be ministers, but that would lead to the end of our party,” commented Petar Vitanov on the GERB-SDS candidacy for prime minister with the first mandate.
According to Vitanov, even after this nomination, the chances of a government are not great.
“I advocate the opinion, not from now, but since the elections, that I do not expect a government. I consider the processes currently underway as an attempt by political parties to shift responsibility. It demonstrates that the necessary efforts are being made. But no one is interested in forming a cabinet before the local elections. The results of the local vote give the parties legal capacity for a 4-year period. This will certainly be calculated by them,” he believes.
“If there are early elections, the BSP in its current state and leadership has no potential for growth. The people who are currently at the head of the party have become a laughing stock for active Bulgarian citizens. The main percentage of voters are over 75 years old, which does not give a perspective for the future. Both people and policies must be changed in order to restore trust,” Petar Vitanov also believes.
The great sin of the BSP leadership is that it deprives Bulgaria of a normal and large left, the MEP also said. It is he who will be discussed at the “Forum for Progressive Left Solutions” organized by the Delegation of Bulgarian Socialists, which will be held on Friday in Sofia.
“We want to show that the left can be attractive. That socialism is not a holdover from the 19th century. Let us recall that the left-wing reading is the basis of justice, that only it can provide solutions to overcome huge inequalities, to wage a normal battle with capital. To provide practical solutions to current topics such as climate change and energy transition. Let’s put on the table the subject of taxes for the rich and the poor,” commented Petar Vitanov.
