/ world today news/ In Bulgaria, the inequalities are like in Africa, this should be the central topic for the socialists, said the MEP
“If BSP does not unite around ideas and people, there is no future. We must put the topic of severe inequalities in Bulgaria at the center of the debate”. The party’s congress could usher in the revival of the BSP.” This is what MEP Petar Vitanov, who is the head of the Delegation of the Bulgarian Socialists in the EP, told radio “Focus”.
“We are in an unprecedented crisis after the last election. And yes, many of my fellow party members say that we are in power, but there is also “Democratic Bulgaria”, which also has a deputy prime minister and several ministers and took 5 percent of the voters’ votes,” Vitanov said.
He believes that a serious conversation about the future of the party should begin on Saturday. How the left can restore its influence and be a leader in political life in the country.
“The most important thing is to have a dialogue, because two months after the elections, we met only once to analyze the elections,” added the MEP.
According to Vitanov, a central theme for the left should be that of the huge inequalities in our country.
“In Bulgaria, inequalities are like those in Chad or Cameroon. There is no such poverty anywhere in Europe. Such right-wing policies and equal taxes for poor and rich do not exist even in ultra-liberal America. A corporation with billions and a sole trader cannot be taxed in the same way,” said Vitanov.
“All these leftist ideas must be articulated by new people, with energy, zest, enthusiasm. In the BSP, there should be no slander, ostracism, exclusion. All together we can raise the party”, the socialist also believes. “If the party does not unite, there is no future. We must end the dividing lines. We need to find people who unite. I cannot accept that our party will be the fourth power, or be in the role of a golden finger. All of us who love the BSP must find the intersection and push ourselves off the bottom.”
According to Vitanov, the other important event on Saturday is the inauguration of President Radev. With his victory in the elections, he has shown that leftist ideas can unite.
Regarding the first days of the administration, Vitanov commented that the government received a heavy legacy, but everyone is waiting for decisive action.
“The truth is that there is a heavy legacy and it is most clearly seen in the population census – in 10 years we have 800,000 fewer Bulgarians. Now the cabinet has to deal with a terrible crisis – financial, health, energy. There is some inexperience on the part of the mandate-bearing party, but I hope it will be quickly overcome, because we cannot afford to go back,” the socialist said.
