/ world today news/ BSP must support a future government, because this is what Bulgaria needs right now. However, the price he will pay as a junior partner in a right-wing government should be clear.
This is what Petar Vitanov, head of the Delegation of Bulgarian Socialists in the European Parliament, told “Bulgaria in the Morning” on TV Europe.
Vitanov, who was also a member of the IC of Rumen Radev and Iliana Yotova, commented on the electoral success.
“The victory of Rumen Radev and Iliyana Yotova was expected because they became the personification of the desire for change of the Bulgarian citizens. They were consistent in their policy and, most importantly, they did not mislead people,” said the MEP.
“Bulgarians are looking for new messiahs, “We continue the change” stepped on the popularity of Rumen Radev, the two ministers Asen Vasilev and Kiril Petkov received wide media access,” commented Vitanov on the election results. “In this sense, we can say that the revolution ate its children, because BSP in recent years was the only consistent opposition that was not tempted to enter government with GERB, to accept positions from Borisov. And even the self-identified parties of change participated in such conspiracies,” he added.
The left is reporting the weak result of the elections. According to Petar Vitanov, the BSP needs a new impulse, as well as an expansion of the base with social democrats and social liberals
“Cornelia Ninova’s behavior in resigning is European, because we have reached a historic bottom. The left cannot be 10 percent in a country like Bulgaria, where there are such great social inequalities,” the socialist said.
Petar Vitanov is adamant that the BSP should support a regular government, because our country is in a spiral of crises, and people are tired of the politicians’ inability to offer workable solutions.
“It is very important what the role of the BSP will be in a right-wing government. Very often the involvement of the junior partner, which we will be, is diluted. You see what happened to the small partners both in our country and in Europe – after such coalitions, they practically disappeared. That is why it is extremely important that the BSP evaluates its role in such a government,” Vitanov commented on the coalition negotiations.
With the stipulation that he does not participate in the negotiation teams, the socialist is convinced that the BSP will be offered the most difficult portfolios.
“What everyone sees in the online broadcasts of the negotiations is that the BSP gives the most valuable and structured proposals and has experts on every topic,” he further commented.
In the days leading up to Christmas, Europe’s agenda will turn to the new strain of Covid-19.
“Not for the first time I will say that Bulgaria is doing very poorly with vaccination. We failed to introduce the stricter measures, we did not use the tools of the state to convince people of the efficacy of vaccines. We could not fight either the fake certificates or the fake news about the disease. The new strain is causing alarm in Brussels, but I hope medicine will give an answer against it as well,” said the MEP.
