“Thin political calculations are being made related to the performance of the local elections. There is no doubt that they are important because they give peace and vitality to any political party for a period of 4 years. And this is why parties cannot ignore the potential damage of coalitions ahead of local elections. That’s why we are currently witnessing conversations that have no practical meaning,” commented Petar Vitanov.
According to him, the internal party poll in the BSP has one goal – to serve the wishes of the narrow leadership.
“I know my party and I am convinced that there are few who will be inclined to some form of political cooperation with GERB. Because for 12 years we have had heated political disputes with this party. I cannot trust the credibility of a possible party poll either. , because it would serve the thesis and the desire of the party’s narrow leadership. It would be the seal that should institutionalize the decision of the leader. However, the head of the Delegation said of the Bulgarian socialists in the EP.
Petar Vitanov believes that the BSP’s participation in a right-wing coalition would cause even greater damage to the party.
“Any attempt to bring the BSP, which is currently the fifth force, into a right-wing government will lead to its downfall. Common sense tells us that we have no place in such a management configuration. We are too small to be able to participate in something like this,” he added.
Petar Vitanov is of the opinion that the leader Kornelia Ninova is inclined to participate in a cabinet, but one is not wanted by the leader of GERB Boyko Borisov.
“For a long time, the leadership of the BSP has not thought about the future. And that is why there are people in the leadership who tend to ally themselves with GERB. But this would be disastrous for the BSP. However, Borisov has no intention of governing with coalition partners BSP and DPS, because this will have a detrimental effect on his party in the local elections,” predicted Vitanov.
Petar Vitanov also commented on the attack on the chief prosecutor.
“Two hypotheses are emerging – a real attack on the person of the chief prosecutor and an attempt at staging. Either of the two hypotheses – this is a heavy blow for our country”, Vitanov said and added that our European partners will get an additional motive to once again postpone Bulgaria’s membership in the Schengen area.
Vitanov revealed that representatives of the progressive left from Bulgaria and other European countries will gather in Sofia at the end of next week. “We want to show the other face of the left. The one that is related to justice and overcoming inequality,” he said.
