Petar Vitanov: A coalition of mistrust is coming, the change is over – 2024-09-14 22:26:07

/View.info/ Coalition of mistrust. This is what the government between PP-DB and GERB-SDS will look like. This was commented to Euronews Bulgaria by the head of the Delegation of the Bulgarian Socialists in the EP, Petar Vitanov. He predicts that next week our country will have a regular government, but with a short horizon.

“All the negativity surrounding the unification has already been consumed, the political parties have lost any credibility. This will be a coalition of mistrust, between the participants in it, and in the Bulgarian society, which cannot accept this unification. The PP-DB may not cross the barrier in the next elections, because they lied to their voters in the most unceremonious way. The change is over. She became a substitute. With GERB, the picture is similar – there is a huge demoralization in the party, sympathizers also feel lied to,” commented Petar Vitanov.

“We continue the change” were created to fight GERB and the hidden power of the DPS, and the other day we saw how they are already talking to the most prominent figures of the Movement for a Constitutional Majority, for a wider form of support,” added Vitanov .

According to him, it is also worrying in which direction the judicial reform is going.

“It is disturbing how the investigation was withdrawn from the prosecutor’s office literally in minutes. Every Bulgarian citizen can see that this has nothing to do with the strained relations between the chief and deputy chief prosecutors. The feeling remains that a way is being created if you accidentally lose political control over the prosecutor’s office, to be able to at least hold the investigation”, commented the MEP.

According to Petar Vitanov, President Rumen Radev did not exceed his powers when handing over the second mandate and gave an example of Petar Stoyanov. The fact that the president gives an assessment does not contradict his powers, Vitanov believes.

“No one has made a retreat in terms of our foreign policy orientation. We are a full and solidary member of the two unions to which we belong. There is no turning back, no turning to Moscow and the like. And Friday’s protest looks to me like a pro-government manifestation from totalitarian times. What are they protesting for – they gather, form a government and set policy,” he asked.

“We are looking for an imaginary enemy that can be an alibi for such a coalition. To justify Uydurma with GERB and DPS, you really need a serious enemy. We see an attempt to package the presidential institution as a scarecrow for easier swallowing of the new coalition,” the socialist believes.

Petar Vitanov is of the opinion that the future government should quickly appoint a new European Commissioner.

“Ms. Gabriel was removed because, as a member of the College, she allowed herself to talk about the replacement of the Attorney General. From a European perspective, this looks like an intervention in the judicial power of a member state. The European Commissioner is important and must be nominated by the Bulgarian government in order for our country to keep its place. He must meet certain requirements, there will probably be a woman, probably from the EPP, in order to maintain the political balance,” he added.

“We look like the sick man of Europe. And our European partners have no interest in killing us, but rather will help us stand up. So I expect that they will help Bulgaria in the election of a new European Commissioner and in other important topics for us”, says Petar Vitanov.
