/ world today news/ “Mars 09” Publishing House has just released the second, supplemented edition of Petar Raichev’s book “Life and Song”. Compiler is Petar Raichev-vnuk, and editor is Prof. Dr. Rumyana Karakostova.
The world-famous tenor Petar Raichev (1887-1960) was the first glorifier of the Bulgarian singing school. In 1908 he was admitted to the Moscow Conservatory. In 1912 he specialized in Naples, Italy. For a quarter of a century he toured the stages of European theaters as a soloist and director. Since the end of the 1930s, he has been a professor at the Academy of Music. He is the founder of the Varna Opera. He was awarded the orders “St. Alexander”, “Hero of the People’s Republic of Bulgaria”, the title “People’s Artist”, Dimitrov Award.
Petar Raichev’s name is a symbol of a brilliant career on world opera stages in the decades between the two world wars. Crowned during his lifetime with the halo of the first national opera legend, he is truly a benchmark both for bel canto mastery, achieved through persistent improvement under distinguished Russian and Italian pedagogues, and for a fully formed artistic personality, formed under the influence of the avant-garde aesthetics of the Moscow Art Theater (MHT ) and the St. Petersburg “Musical Drama”. With a repertoire of over 80 tenor parts and hundreds of songs and thanks to his polyglot abilities (he speaks and sings in nine languages), Petar Raichev toured for years in various productions, where he partnered with the most celebrated conductors and opera celebrities of his time – from Arturo Toscanini to Fyodor Chaliapin. With the career of Petar Raichev, the beginning of the phenomenon of Bulgarian opera voices, which still amazes the world today, as well as the real inclusion of Bulgaria among the countries with the most significant contribution to the performance culture in the opera theater of the 20th century, began.
The book is an autobiographical account of the life and work of our illustrious compatriot. Fascinating for the stories about his meetings with great personalities of the era such as Maxim Gorky, Vladimir Mayakovsky, Ilya Repin, Konstantin Stanislavsky, Vladimir Nemirovich-Danchenko, Stefan Zweig and others.
The official presentation of the new, supplemented edition will take place on Sunday, June 14, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. in the lobby of the Sofia Opera House. The book will be presented again the next day, June 15 at 7:30 p.m. at the Boris Hristov Music Center, at 43 Tsar Samuil Street.
