Recently, suspected collective poisoning of pet dogs occurred in a community in Zunyi, Guizhou, and many dogs have died of poisoning. One resident said she often walks her dog late at night to avoid disturbing other residents. At around 11pm on the 22nd of this month, her dog showed symptoms of suspected poisoning after wandering around the community, and died the next day. She worries that the toxic substances could cause harm to small children. In recent days, about 10 dogs in the community have shown similar symptoms, many of which could not be saved. The local police have launched an investigation.
Staff of the community property company said that on October 23, they received reports from many residents that their pet dogs were suspected of being poisoned, but the specific reasons are not yet clear. On October 24, the police went to the community to conduct an investigation, but have not yet received notification of the investigation results.
Several nearby pet hospitals confirmed that dogs in the community where the incident occurred were suspected of being poisoned and were sent to the hospital for treatment. Staff at one of the hospitals said that between October 22 and 23, four dogs from the same community with similar symptoms were sent for treatment. These dogs showed symptoms such as panting and vomiting, and in severe cases, they were incontinent. Eventually the limbs become stiff. After examination, it was determined that the cause was poisoning. Unfortunately, none of the four dogs were saved.
Staff at another hospital said that in the early morning of October 24, a dog was sent to the emergency room by its owner. The symptoms included vomiting and panting. The examination found that the dog’s liver and kidney indicators were abnormal, and it was likely to be caused by poisoning.
A staff member of the Yonghe Community Neighborhood Committee in Zhongzhuang Street, Honghuagang District, Zunyi City said that the matter is currently being handled by the public security organs. The Honghuagang Branch of the Zunyi Municipal Public Security Bureau also stated that the police have intervened in the investigation.
