Pessimistic Nadal considers current tennis season lost NOW

Rafael Nadal does not expect to play tennis at the highest level in 2020. The Spanish number two in the world fears that the current tennis season should be considered lost.

“I hope we can get back on track before the end of the year, but I don’t think so,” said the nineteen-time Grand Slam winner on Tuesday against the Spanish newspaper El País.

“I would sign immediately to get back into action in 2021. I am more concerned about the Australian Open than the end of this year. I think we should consider 2020 lost.”

Nadal would understand if the international tennis associations ATP and WTA were to cancel all tournaments for this calendar year. “The most important thing is to save lives and maintain our health. Sports are not the top priority now.”

Due to the coronavirus outbreak, most of the current tennis season has been canceled or moved. For example, Wimbledon was canceled for the first time since 1945 and Roland Garros has been temporarily moved to September 20.
