Russian President’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the Kremlin wants American colleagues and U.S. citizens to restore calm and harmony amid protests in the country.
“This is an internal matter of the United States, and we sincerely wish our American colleagues and Americans to restore their peace and harmony as much as possible,” Peskov said.
Peskov also commented on the situation with the proposal to demolish the monument to the ruler of Russian settlements in Alaska, Alexander Baranov.
“As for the demolition of monuments, now it has become widespread. You know that in our country there was also a period when we demolished the monuments, it was not the most brilliant period of our history, ”he noted.
Earlier, the Coordinating Council of organizations of Russian compatriots of the United States made a petition against the demolition of the monument the ruler of Russian settlements in North America in the late XVIII – early XIX centuries, Alexander Baranov in the city of Sitka.
US President Donald Trump said that vandalism against monuments stopped in the country, after he signed a decree on long prison sentences for such crimes.
