PES 2022 will be free this year, latest rumors suggest

After suddenly releasing a demo for PES 2022, Konami is apparently also considering making a free-to-play endgame.

FIFA maybe the dominant football simulation, but there is always room for Konami’s Pro Evolution Soccer. The series skipped completely last year, but surprise demo for what should be PES 2022 abandoned just a few weeks ago.

There’s still very little information about the new entry (it’s not even clear if it will be called PES 2022), but a source claims Konami plans to make it a free-to-play game.

Speaking at VGC Off The Record, Andy Robinson, while talking about Konami “sparkling to life”, mentioned the company’s plans for PES 2022.

“There will be something new with PES this year, I hear. They will be completely free to play and really make a difference.

Konami previously explained that they don’t have any new games for 2021 as they need more time to make any substantial changes. For starters, it will use the Unreal Engine as opposed to Konami’s own Fox Engine, which has been used for the PES series since PES 2014.

Given Konami’s inability to compete directly with EA, the free-to-play strategy makes sense, but fans will no doubt be concerned about how the game is trying to make a profit through microtransactions.

Despite the silence, Konami seems to be gearing up for a major comeback in game development. Although he never stopped technically (he announced reboot GetsuFumaDen earlier this year), has earned a reputation over the years for completely ignoring its biggest franchises, namely Metal Gear, Castlevania, and Silent Hill.

There were constant rumors about a new Silent Hill in development, and it only persisted, especially when Bloobeur Team revealed he would be working with Konami.

The Bloober team is well known for working on horror games, such as Street and Witch Blair, so it’s only natural that people assume that this applies to the Silent Hill game. However Konami has not officially announced anything.
