Lima, June 15 (EFE) .- The population over 40 years of age will be able to apply a fourth dose of the vaccine against covid-19 in Peru, “according to the progress of coverage in each region and the closing of gaps”, The Ministry of Health reported this Wednesday in a statement.
The Ministry explained that this fourth dose must be administered to anyone over 40 years of age after at least five months have elapsed since receiving the third.
Likewise, this fourth dose will continue to be administered to people over 18 years of age with comorbidities and health personnel.
The Ministry of Health encouraged the population aged five and older to go to vaccination centers to reduce the number of deaths from the virus in the country, which has not yet lived a day without fatalities from this cause since the beginning of the pandemic.
The latest information from the ministry shows that 63.7% of the country’s target population already has all three doses, which adds up to more than 18.2 million people out of the 33 that Peru has.
For his part, the Minister of Health, Jorge López Peña, also called on Wednesday for the population to also be vaccinated against influenza or flu.
“I urge our population to go to the vaccinations and take their children so they can be vaccinated against influenza. In the face of these climate changes, they need to be protected and the only way is through the vaccine to prevent them from ending up in a hospital bed or in the intensive care unit,” López said at a Lima hospital.
