17:10 | Los Angeles, Aug. 1.

Nicolás Stigler Yañez, fifth-year high school student from Colegio Peruano Chino Juan XXIII, won the bronze medal in the Microsoft Office Specialist — Excel 2016 category of the Certiport MOS Specialist World Championship, which put his technological skills to the test in this program that makes it easy to create spreadsheets.

During the competition, held in Los Angeles, the schoolboy Nicolás Stigler had 50 minutes to perform multiple tasks in the Excel program. It was almost three hours of work showing data from the company npower, a non-profit organization that helps people with fewer opportunities to get jobs.

“We had to show data about your company and the contributions they made to their students throughout their preparation in this organization,” said Nicolás. The result: three documents in PDF format —with more than 10 pages each— and a PPT with extra information.

“I was nervous at first, but the team from Peru and Ecuador received me quickly and I enjoyed myself as much as I could with them. At the time of the competition I put all my thoughts aside to avoid getting distracted and to achieve a good result. I knew that I had done a good job but I wasn’t sure if I was going to make it into the top three,” he confessed.

“I sat when I heard my name until I heard my friends applaud and shout, then I realized that my name was really there and I felt quite happy,” he concluded in an interview on the study center blog.
