Peruvian pomegranate exports abroad reached more than US$ 6 million in January

Shipments of Peruvian pomegranates to the world reached US$ 6 million 681 thousand in January, registering an increase of 448% compared to the same month in 2023 when the amount amounted to US$ 1 million 218 thousand, stated the Association of Exporters (ADEX). ).

This fruit was shipped in two presentations, fresh and frozen. The first represented 96.6% of the total (US$ 6 million 451 thousand) and the second 3.4% (US$ 230 thousand). In volume they were 2,285 tons (fresh) and almost 48 thousand tons (frozen).

According to the ADEX Data Trade Commercial Intelligence System, in the first month of 2024, the Netherlands led the market ranking with US$ 5 million 561 thousand, achieving a concentration of 83% and a growth of 429%.

Second place was occupied by Brazil, with US$325,183, and third by the United States with US$304,000. They completed the top five United Kingdom (US$ 196,371) and Germany (US$ 155,414). Others were Canada and Colombia.

In total there were 8 destinations that this one reached superfood. The most important increase was presented by the ‘South American giant’ with 718%, followed by the US with 454%, the Netherlands with 429% and Germany with 203%.

Currently, pomegranate production is concentrated in Ica, where around 80% of the total takes place, followed by Arequipa, Lima, Lambayeque and Ancash. In recent months, Tacna emerged as another producing region.
