Peruvian Police Capture Alleged Leader of Money Laundering Organization

This morning, the National Police of Peru carried out a successful operation with the aim of capturing the alleged leader of a money laundering organization in Peru. According to proceedings by the Public Ministry, Marco Estrada Gonzales, The Peruvian drug trafficker who built his empire in Argentina would be the fundamental piece of this criminal organization.

The members of this squad arrived in the district of Surco to carry out the capture at the home located in the defendant’s home, located at Loma Umbrosa 363 in Surco, where the search and preliminary arrest operation was carried out.

Members of the National Seized Assets Program (PRONABI) also arrived at the scene to intervene not only in said home, where Marco Estrada Gonzales would live, but also in a truck with license plate B4A-449.

According to preliminary information, the operation would be taking place simultaneously in other districts with the aim of capturing this entire gang that has been operating in the country for several months.

PNP captured a gang leader who operated for more than 20 years in Argentina.

The judicial order dictates the preliminary arrest and search of the home of Marco Estrada Gonzales. It is also known that during this operation seven people were arrested who would be involved in this crime and who would be part of this gang, which would be operating in the country since the extradition of this drug trafficker.

The police seized all the necessary material to help continue the investigations into this case.

Peruvian led drug trafficking network in Argentina

According to Argentine judicial authorities, Marcos Estrada Gonzales was at the head of a drug trafficking and money laundering organization in Argentina, in collaboration with his brother, Fernando Estrada Gonzales, who is known under the alias ‘Piti’.

In April 2022, the alleged suspect surrendered to the Argentine authorities after remaining on the run for 13 years, with an arrest warrant issued in 2010.

The extradition of Estrada Gonzales

Marco Estrada Gonzales had resided in Argentina for more than two decades and, for their repatriation, eight vehicles with federal agents were mobilized. This group included detectives from the Immigration Affairs Division and members of the GEOF task force. They arrived at the Federal Penitentiary Complex 2 of Marcos Paz, where this alleged drug trafficker was detained, in order to escort him to the Ezeiza Airport for his transfer.

According to judicial and police investigators, despite being detained, “Marcos” was still running the drug sales business from his cell, carrying out extortion against merchants, making threats to local residents and fomenting violence in Villa 1. 11-14.

Marcos Estrada, the feared drug trafficker, was captured this morning by the PNP.

The two most significant cases against him for drug trafficking included a request for international arrest and detention in Asunción, Paraguay, in 2007. These cases culminated in two abbreviated trials, each with a sentence of 6 years in prison. The first of these trials took place in 2012, and the second in 2013. Ultimately, a consolidated sentence of 10 years in prison was reached as a result of both cases.

Estrada arrived in Peru in April 2022 after being expelled by the Argentine authorities and despite this, he was free all this time. Only this September 19 was he able to be captured.
