The Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) assured that the recovery of the peruvian economy it is the highest in all of Latin America.
In that sense, Waldo Mendoza, head of the MEF, assured that this year the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) will grow by more than 10% as a rebound effect due to the restart of various activities, thus surpassing Chile, Colombia, Mexico or Brazil.
“So far this year, our economy has become the one with the greatest recovery in Latin America. By the end of 2021 we will grow by more than 10% and we will once again be one of the countries that will lead the economic growth of the region”, He said yesterday at a press conference.
Likewise, Mendoza said that there is a lot of optimism regarding the economic recovery.
“Peru is a small economy open to international trade; therefore, what happens in the world matters a lot to us. This year world production will grow by approximately 6%, one of the highest recorded since the 1970s.”, He mentioned.
He added that in the world there will be a lot of demand for Peruvian products. “We will be able to sell at good prices and we will export significantly”, He specified.
Public investment
With regard to public investment, the minister said that the dynamics is invigorating and this year it will continue to grow.
“The regional and municipal governments already have the budgets and the experience and have the support of the MEF. Therefore, public investment this year must grow above 20%”, He declared.
He also stressed that the state’s credit support will continue. “Reactiva Peru has already been reprogrammed, business support funds (FAE) for micro and small enterprises have been reprogrammed, new programs have been created, so the behavior of credit will continue in a very positive way”, He specified.
In addition, Mendoza pointed out that with the vast majority of the population vaccinated against COVID-19, it will be possible to travel and work with more confidence. “Economic activities may be fully developed“, He said.
