Peruvian economy fell -0.55% during 2023, confirms INEI

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) confirmed that the Peruvian economy fell 0.55% during 2023; A general overview shows that of the 12 months of last year, growth was only recorded in three and the negative results extended for nine months.

Even figures from the INEI National Production Report indicate that in the middle of the Christmas season in December, the economy fell 0.74%. This has negatively affected the income and purchasing power of families in the country.

The most affected sector was fishing with a drop of -19.75% due to the cancellation of the first anchovy season; It is followed by construction, which fell -7.86%; the financial sector (-7.85%); manufacturing (-6.65%); telecommunications (-5.80); and agriculture (-2.91%).

The only sectors that registered growth were mining (8.21%); electricity, gas and water (3.68%); accommodation and restaurants (2.68%); commerce (2.36%); and transportation (1.27%).
