The Peruvian Union University organized a large gathering as part of the Mission Caleb project. The volunteers gathered at the Congress of the Republic of Peru to carry out an altruistic act: donating blood.
The Children’s Hospital, the Neoplastic Hospital, the Santa Rosa Hospital and the Hipólito Unanue Hospital received 478 units of blood. Seventh-day Adventist Church has been making this donation for 20 years and, on this occasion, it had the support of civil authorities, congressmen and representatives of the Municipality of Metropolitan LimaVarious local and national media outlets were present to cover the event, highlighting its relevance and the impact of the campaign.

On behalf of the Peruvian Union Universityattended by the rector, Walter Murillo Antón; the vice-rector of University Welfare, Eduardo Bailón Azurín; and the manager of UnionMartin Saldaña Dávila. The Vice Minister of Public Health of the Ministry of HealthRicardo Peña Sánchez, and the councilors of the Metropolitan Municipality of Lima, Déborah Inga Zapata and Mirla Mondragón Guevara. Representing the young Adventists, volunteers of Mission Caleb, was Pr. Alan Cosavalente.
The blood donation campaign was carried out under the supervision of representatives from the National Institute of Neoplastic Diseases, the Santa Rosa Hospital, the Hipólito Unanue National Hospital and the National Institute of Children’s Health.
At the opening of the donation day, the president of the Congress, Mr. Eduardo Salhuana, said: “This event is transcendental. I congratulate Congressman Alejandro Muñante for his management of the ‘Life for Lives’ event and the Adventist Church. Blood cannot be created artificially; it can only be donated by human beings. Thank you for this act of generosity and humanity.”
Congressman Alejandro Muñante indicated that the campaign aimed to collect 478 units of blood. He also presented Bill 5925/2023-CR, which proposes declaring June 14 as National Blood Donor Day. The proposal is awaiting inclusion in the Congress Plenary agenda for approval.
Recognition of Volunteers
Civil representatives highlighted the efforts of Adventists, who donate blood not only in Lima, but throughout the country. Adventist volunteers, with a distinctive lifestyle and a particular diet, are always ready to donate blood, representing the largest annual call for donations in various regions.
Love for one’s neighbor was also evident in Chimbote, where another large group of Calebs made a donation at the Eleazar Guzmán Barrón Regional Hospital. Through the “Life for Lives” project, the Adventist Church continues to save three lives with each donation. This altruistic act follows the biblical example of Jesus, who gave his blood out of love to save us.
