In a joint effort, the Ministry of the Interior, the National Police of Peru and the merchants of the Gamarra emporium came together to combat the extortion crime “drop by drop”, with the aim of warning citizens about the danger of accessing these Quick loans, without guarantees or endorsement and with high interest, which lead to crimes associated with extortion.
The head of the Robbery Investigation Division of the Criminal Investigation Directorate (Dirincri), Colonel PNP Marco Conde, led the activation carried out in the Gamarra emporium itself, and stressed the importance of denouncing these national and international mafias that harm thousands of people.
“It is essential that the victims of these criminals report them to the National Police. Rest assured that your police will attend to you and will capture these subjects. So far, we have arrested more than 60 foreigners who were engaged in this form of extortion,” said the police authority.
He added that during the month of April 15 criminal gangs dedicated to these criminal activities have been dismantled.
Although he said that so far there are no complaints about cases of “drop by drop” in Gamarra, Conde warned of the existence of 40 applications through which these criminals seek to capture their victims to extort them.
“Through these applications, one enters, fills out an online form authorizing access to their data, their photographs and their videos. When one agrees to this, they are giving all the inputs to the criminal so that he can extort and coerce him, ”she stressed.
He stressed that the Minister of the Interior, Vicente Romero, has given clear instructions to intensify the operations against these extortionists who cause anxiety in merchants, businessmen and carriers nationwide.
The police officers present spoke with passers-by and merchants about the importance of not falling into the clutches of these criminals, as well as the importance of reporting these events. Information was provided through flyers, loudspeakers and talks.
The representative of the Emporio de Gamarra businessmen, Susana Saldaña, was also present at the preventive action, who thanked the presence of the Mininter and the PNP, since this strengthens the confidence of the merchants in their authorities.
The Ministry of the Interior highlights that any citizen who is a victim of “drop by drop” loans or knows of people who are engaged in this activity, can report these facts, in a safe, confidential manner and with all the guarantees of the case, to the Single Complaints Center of the Ministry or Line 1818 and the number 942841978.
