The Czech number one and last year’s finalists from Ostrava, who won a historic triumph at the tournament in Doha in March, had a tactic to play Nicolai. Schweiner did well on the block, stopping the opponent’s attack seven times. The three-time European champions and silver medalists from the Rio Nicolai and Lup games did not find a counter-weapon for the entire match.

In the second round of the playoffs, the most committed Czech players defeated the Austrians Robin Seidl and Philipp Waller 2: 1 to sets after the turnaround. As in Friday’s duel with the Latvian pair Aleksandrs Samoilovs, Janis Šmedinš had to turn the match around. They lost the first set 18:21. The Czech players won the other two sets in front of an excellent backdrop in the Dolní Vítkovice complex in the ratio of 21:19 and 15:10.
