Perugia, 28 November 2024 – From Napoli to Perugia. Today the president of Perugia Calcio, Javier Faroni, signed the contract with the expert and renowned Sports General Director Mauro Meluso, who will immediately take over the leadership of the Grifo sports area. This position, created specifically by Faroni within the corporate structure, aims to lead the sports project until mid-2027, with renewal options linked to the achievement of specific objectives.
Meluso, with extensive experience in Italian football, arrives having held a position at Napoli until June 2024. Previously, he played the same role at Serie A teams such as Spezia and Lecce, where he achieved a stunning promotion from Serie C to the top category in just two seasons. Furthermore, he has been part of successful projects in clubs such as Cosenza, Frosinone, Pisa and many others.
“I am extremely happy to be able to count on Mauro in our work team, not only for his proven technical competence throughout his career, but also for his human qualities. For several months we have started regular meetings, even before the acquisition of Perugia, looking for meeting points to define the integrated sports project we want for Grifo. It is an honor to announce this important addition, which will undoubtedly strengthen our ambition to compete at a high level and consolidate the development of the youth sector we are working on“, declared President Javier Faroni.
The arrival of Mauro Meluso and his staff positions Perugia as a club with a concrete and ambitious sporting project. “It will not be an easy task, because, as I have always said, Perugia needs an overall balance in all aspects of the club. This balance is gradually being achieved, and now is the time for the sports area to accompany this growth“, concluded Faroni.
Perugia Calcio will continue to count in its team on the current Sports Director, Mr. Jacopo Giugliarelli, as well as on the entire working group of the Youth Sector and the Scouting area.
