Peru: Zamora on death threat: “I received it from people related

Former Health Minister Víctor Zamora confirmed on Friday that he received death threats when the wallet was occupied by people linked to Zeev Chen, an Israeli accused of being the alleged head of a drug gang.

“It was during those two days that I received threats from people linked to this character (Zeev Chen) of drug trafficking in Peru. Actually, it is a combination of many things, the first thing is that my phone is public, I have always used it during the epidemic so that the population, authorities, people, community leaders, journalists can always communicate with me ”Zamora told Canal N.

“From the first day of my administration, I have tried to answer almost all the calls made to that phone to have direct contact. Yes, I was certainly struck by the code of the number that had that phone, I received that call and it made me wonder because I was asking for a document that I have no interference with and from there I decided I did not receive any more messages ”he added.

A report by ‘América Noticias’ revealed last Thursday the death threats that former Minister Zamora would have received from a person linked to Zeev Chen, an Israeli accused of allegedly leading a drug gang.

“Good evening, are you Victor? I am related to Zeev Chen. You and the president are going to pay … Your family is going to pay for all the injustice they did. Victor, look I don’t want to harm you, I just demand that you go to sign the death document ”, is read in the WhatsApp message sent on July 11.

The report mentioned that the person who sent these messages to the former Health Minister wanted him to sign the death document so that the body of Zeev Chen be transferred to Israel.

I just needed to talk to you to see how I could get you to authorize me to transfer his body to Israel. You have until tomorrow to fix all this. I’m in Peru and you don’t want to cross meContinues the message.

According to the aforementioned newspaper, Zeev Chen died of COVID-19 at the Archbishop Loayza hospital on June 14. He was confined in the Lurigancho prison, where he contracted the disease. In 2001, he was sentenced to 20 years in prison for possessing a ton of cocaine.

Likewise, the report specifies that the security of Zamora and that of his family were doubled. The case is under investigation by the Criminal Investigation Directorate for the crime of coercion and threats.
