Peru will confront crime “with a heavy hand” –

Dina Boluarte, president of Peru.

The president of Peru, In Boluartestated this Friday that his Government will confront crime “with a heavy hand and without any kind of consideration”, in addition to pointing out that the crime of “extortion has its hours numbered” in his country.

“No Peruvian deserves to be a victim of crime”Boluarte emphasized during the inauguration of the new 111 telephone exchange, installed by the National Police of Peru (PNP) so that citizens can report the growing cases of extortion.

“Today we reaffirm our commitment to confront crime with a strong hand”he remarked before pointing out that “in this war there is no time to lose, Peru needs us united to confront crime.”

Boluarte said that his country “is experiencing decisive moments that demand the unity of all Peruvians and the use of all the necessary tools to end crime.”

«Here we will demonstrate with facts the joint work against this type of crimes. “Extortion and hitmen will not defeat us, we will put them behind bars.”he remarked.

According to official information, the new PNP Central 111 will offer a free and confidential service to “immediately report any act of extortion and receive timely protection from police personnel.”

The service will be in charge of the Kidnapping and Extortion Division (Divise) of the PNP and interconnected with the 105 Emergency Center, so it will be able to receive images, audios and videos that citizens share so that they can be analyzed by the Operational Group of Immediate Response to Extortion (Gorex).

The Government of Peru presented this Thursday a bill that qualifies as “urban terrorism” the crimes of extortion, kidnapping and hitmen.in response to the wave of crime reported by transporters and business associations.

The Peruvian Executive announced a week ago that it was going to send this project to Congress, after the transport union of Lima agreed to a strike to protest against the wave of extortion.

The proposal defines urban terrorism as “acts that generate terror or anxiety in the population or in a sector of it” through the crimes of hitmen, conspiracy, offering for hitmen and extortion.

It proposes that the sentences for this crime be no less than 30 years in prison and become life imprisonment when those who commit it belong to the Armed Forces or Police, use weapons or war material and use minors or persons not responsible for committing it. .

Although this project has already reached Congress, the plenary session that met on Thursday debated another similar proposal raised by legislators, but then decided that the Justice Commission should still collect other contributions and suggestions on the initiative, according to the president of that working group.
