Peru vs Ecuador: A bitter defeat for the Peruvian team on Tuesday, September 10, in the framework of the eighth date of the Qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, the ‘blanquirroja’ fell 1-0 to the ‘tricolor’ at the Rodrigo Paz Delgado stadium in Quito.
The ‘bicolor’ could not offer a game on equal terms and showed weakness when it came to associating in attack and generating scoring opportunities. Despite attempts to find offensive circuits, the Ecuadorian team was solid and prevented the Peruvian attack from feeling comfortable: they controlled the match.
The Peruvian team has not managed to record a win in eight matches, suffered its fifth defeat in the qualifiers and is last in the standings with three points. Coach Jorge Fossati’s team is six points away from the World Cup play-off zone.
The ‘tri’ achieved victory at home thanks to a header from Enner Valencia in the 54th minute of the second half. The striker allowed his team to achieve its fourth victory and with 11 points it occupies direct qualification positions.
The next FIFA double date will be played between October 10 and 15. Peru will face Uruguay at the National Stadium and Brazil as a visitor for the 9th and 10th dates of the qualifiers, respectively. Ecuador will face Paraguay in Quito and Uruguay in Montevideo.
