Lima – In a bus accident in Peru, 16 people died on Monday and more than 40 others were injured. This was announced by the prosecutor of the South American country on Monday evening (local time).
Among the victims are two Germans, Stefan G. (30) and Simona Z. (28), as well as two Brazilians and a Spaniard.

The Cruz del Sur long-distance bus was traveling early in the morning in the Yauca district in the Arequipa region.
According to the GPS recordings, the driver descended the road at a speed of 106 km / h – 90 km / h were allowed. The driver himself testified that the brake had failed.

Marah M. (18) from Germany survived the accident. The AP news agency told her at the Nazca hospital that she and her friend Stella Mauren were woken up by the violent impact. Because of the too tight seat belt, she was unable to breathe until a man cut the belt with a knife.
