Peru trains more than 60 specialists in robotic surgery in Brazil | PERU

The Ministry of Health (Minsa) reported that Peru has sent more than 60 health specialists to Brazil to receive intensive training in robotic surgery, an advanced technique that will be implemented for the first time in the country.

The team is made up of doctors, oncological surgeons, anesthesiologists and nurses from the Dos de Mayo Hospital (HNDM) and the National Institute of Neoplastic Diseases (INEN). In total, the group includes 31 doctors, 4 anesthesiologists, 10 nurses, a logistics specialist and two strategic planners from the HNDM, as well as 10 specialized surgeons, 2 anesthesiologists and 4 nurses from the INEN.

The training began on November 1 with a theoretical phase on the principles of robotic surgery. Since November 25, specialists receive theoretical-practical training at the Albert Einstein Hospital in São Paulo, recognized as a leader in robotic surgery in Latin America.

The training will continue in Peru with a stage of direct accompaniment. A team of medical instructors and specialized engineers from the Brazilian hospital will travel to Peru to guide specialists during the first interventions. This program is expected to conclude on January 30, 2025.

The head of the INEN Surgery Directorate, Carlos Luque, highlighted that “oncological surgeons will learn to operate in a robotic system with 3D vision,” which will mark a significant advance in the treatment of neoplastic diseases in Peru. For her part, Dr. María Cáceres, from HNDM, stressed that this technology “minimizes the risk of injuries, improves surgical precision and accelerates patient recovery.”
