(ANSA) – LIMA, 04 APR – The Peruvian Parliament today rejected two requests presented by opposition parties regarding a possible dismissal of President Dina Boluarte for “permanent moral incapacity”, against the backdrop of the ‘Rolex Case’ for which she is under investigation in these days by the prosecutor’s office for illicit enrichment. The first request, reports the newspaper La Republica, was presented by the Perù Libre party and the reasons stated that Boluarte “exercises the highest office in Peru, which requires impeccable ethical and moral behavior”. Therefore the requested dismissal is justified by the fact that the head of state “did not mention the precious assets (including Rolex watches) in any of the declarations presented” to the tax authorities and the electoral justice system. However, the request was rejected with 59 votes against and 31 in favor. The second request was instead presented by various other groups, including Cambio Democratico-Juntos, and was based both on Boluarte’s responsibility for the ‘Rolex Case’, but also on the dozens of deaths recorded in social demonstrations against the government which took place beyond one year ago. And also for the broken promise to facilitate early elections, strongly requested by the population. After the preliminary debate, 59 parliamentarians voted against the motion, and only around twenty in favour. (HANDLE).
