Peru: Investigations into sex trafficking ring in parliament –

Salos in Peru. Peru’s Congress plans to subpoena a former top staff member suspected of leading a prostitution ring operating clandestinely inside parliament to testify on Thursday, Peruvian media reported Tuesday.

The main suspect is the former head of the legal and constitutional service of Congress, jurist Jorge Torres, who is close to the right-wing Alliance for Progress (APP) party, according to information reported in recent days by the Peruvian public news agency Andina and others. media.

Mr. Torres will be asked to testify before an audit committee of the Peruvian parliament over allegations brought to light last week by the TV show Beto a Saber that he was the mastermind of a ring that recruited supposed secretaries and other congressional workers to actually have sexual relations with parliamentarians.

The investigation by the Peruvian parliament adds to a preliminary investigation by the prosecutor’s office, which is ongoing, into the “alleged crime of sexual exploitation of women who have not yet been identified.”

Mr. Torres denied the accusation in press statements, calling on the Attorney General’s Office and the Congressional Oversight Committee to investigate.

He was forced to resign on December 13, three days after the shooting death of his former partner, Andrea Vidal, who was allegedly recruiting the ring’s prostitutes.

“Never in my life as a parliamentarian did I imagine that I would live a situation of this nature,” admitted Congress President Eduardo Saluana, who belongs to the APP.
