The president of the Council of Ministers, Walter Martos, pointed out that, despite the increase in COVID-19 infections and the sincere figures, returning to a quarantine would be “complicated”.
“Going back to a strict quarantine would be very difficult. We have to take care of ourselves ”, indicated the new prime minister in dialogue with TV Peru.
He explained that in the beginning the quarantine was necessary and if it had not been applied, the effects of the pandemic would have been much worse in the country.
“With the hospital response we had at that time, with no knowledge of how to protect ourselves or about treatment, [no imponer una cuarentena estricta] it would have been disastrous in a country with our characteristics ”he indicated.
However, he stressed that response capacity has been improved, and now, in addition to health, economic reactivation must also be prioritized.

The head of the PCM also referred to the new sources of contagion. He clarified that it is no longer the markets and public transport, as it was in the beginning, but social gatherings.
