Pertamina Official Clarifies False Information on Gas Station Dispenser Nozzle Speed

Jakarta

A video has gone viral on social media which states that the speed of the gas station dispenser nozzle when filling with fuel affects the number of liters of petrol that enters the tank. The fuel content using speed 1 is said to be more in line with the meter per liter compared to using speed 3.

Regarding this, PT Pertamina Patra Niaga Corporate Secretary Irto Ginting opened his voice. Irto confirmed that this information was wrong. According to him, the speed of the nozzle only affects the filling speed, not the volume of fuel released.

“The information in the video is wrong. The speed of the gas station nozzle affects the filling speed, not the volume/amount of fuel released,” said Irto to detikcom, Tuesday (8/1/2024).

According to him, the mechanism for testing the volume/quantity of fuel released uses Legal Metrology. Before operation, all Pertamina gas stations must undergo a Tera Metrology test by the Metrology team and be sealed to ensure the volume/quantity dispensed complies with applicable regulations.

“Testing is carried out periodically every 1 year, this is included in Pertamina’s Pasti Pas Audit,” he added.

Apart from that, said Irto, the Pertamina gas station dispenser nozzle is also equipped with a sensor that automatically stops filling when it reaches almost full, to prevent overflow. However, people who have doubts about gas stations are welcome to immediately report to Pertamina for follow-up.

“If further explanation is needed, people who still have doubts about the gas station can provide us with the gas station number and location so that we can carry out a re-measurement test according to the applicable method,” he added.

Previously, in the viral video, it was narrated that unreliable gas stations have two characteristics. The first is refusing to use speed 1 when filling fuel, and taking issue with filling fuel with mineral water bottles.

“So not all gas stations are trustworthy, guys. Well, there are two characteristics, the first is that they object a little when we ask for one speed. ‘Oh no, miss, we’ll go straight to three’, you have to be suspicious,” said the woman in the viral video.

“Secondly, you try to test it, bro, my motorbike broke down. There you bring a 1.5 liter Aqua (bottle). When he has a lot of excuses, you have to suspect the meter,” he concluded.
