Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
The driver who defends the team Pertamina Mandalika SAG Racing Team Bo Bendsneyder promised to carry the Indonesian flag if he could reach the top three in the 2023 Mandalika Moto2 race.
Bendsneyder not only defends a team that is sponsored by Indonesia, but also has Indonesian blood from his grandfather who was born in Surabaya.
“If I get on the podium at the Mandalika Circuit, I will celebrate it like when I was at a race in the US. Mandalika is like my second home, because my grandfather was born in Surabaya,” said Bendsneyder, quoted by Antara.
The racer, who competed at the Mandalika Circuit last year, considers Indonesia his second home. Apart from heredity, Bendsneyder also said that the warmth of the Indonesian people fascinated him.
“Many Indonesian people support me and I like it. Here the supporters are very warm (support me). They support me not when my performance is up, but when my performance is down, they always give support,” said Bendsneyder, who is a Dutch citizen.
“Here [di Indonesia] like my second home. We received a lot of support from the community. This provides additional motivation for me. “There is no specific target to finish at, but what is clear is that I want to finish at the front,” he added.
Bendsneyder is currently ranked 19th in the Moto2 racer standings with 22 points.
The 24-year-old racer achieved the most points when he finished third in the American Moto2 at the Austin Circuit. Apart from that, Bendsneyder also got points in Italy, Austria and San Marino.
Last year Bendsneyder finished 15th in the Mandalika Moto2 race and was entitled to one point.
