Mexico City. Although the manufacturing industry showed modest growth in February of 0.5 percent, but with stagnation in its annual measurement in the second month of 2024, employment in said industry fell and reached eight consecutive monthly falls in February, the Institute reported. National Statistics and Geography (Inegi).
According to Manufacturing Sector Indicators (Emim), prepared by Inegi, the indicator of employed personnel in the manufacturing industry stood at 102.4 points last February, which generated a decline of 0.2 percent compared to January, and thus link eight months of consecutive losses.
Likewise, the growth of employed personnel in February compared to the same month in 2023 showed a contraction of 1.5 percent, the sixth consecutive drop.
Personnel occupied in worker and technical roles in production reported a monthly drop of 0.3 percent; while it fell 1.1 percent annually in February, for both measurements it was its sixth contraction in a row. Administrative employees showed a decrease of 0.1 percent compared to the previous month, and compared to February 2023 they rose 0.7 percent and showed a deceleration.
Hours worked increased 0.4 percent in February and real average remuneration paid (wages, salaries and social benefits) increased by one percent.
At an annual rate and with figures adjusted for seasonality, hours worked decreased 1.7 percent. Real average salaries grew 4.9 percent.
