BATAM, KOMPAS.com – Security officers or Avsec Batam Hang Nadim International Airport, Riau Islands together with Batam Customs Hangar Officers succeeded in thwarting the smuggling of 3 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine.

This incident occurred on Saturday (22/8/2020) yesterday afternoon. The perpetrator was a civil servant from the Bali Transportation Service (Dishub) with the initials RDP and a woman with the initials ML.

Previously, the two perpetrators arrived for transit at Hang Nadim Batam from Pekanbaru for Surabaya.

Hang Nadim Batam Airport Business Entity (Bubu) and Information Communication (TIK) Director, Suwarso, by telephone confirmed the incident.

Suwarso said they were arrested because Avsec and Hanggar BC Airport officers were suspicious of their actions. After being examined, both of them were carrying drugs.

“The methamphetamine is stored in several locations, from the calves, shoes, waist to the genitals,” said Suwarso by telephone, Sunday (24/8/2020) last night.

Suwarso added that from RDP, his party managed to secure 1,702 grams of crystal methamphetamine and from ML there were 1,388 grams of crystal methamphetamine.

“Initially, ML was caught first after passing walkthrough, after being manually checked there was a strange object on ML’s waist, “explained Suwarso.

From there proceed to the examination room in a special room with RDP colleagues (via x-ray).

After finding the object suspected of being methamphetamine, the two of them were taken to the Hang Nadim Customs office.

Head of the Eradication of the Provincial National Narcotics Agency (BNNP) Kepri Kombes Pol Arief Bastari, who also confirmed that an individual from the Bali Transportation Agency was arrested.

“Yes, there was a delegation from Avsec Batam Hang Nadim International Airport and Batam Customs regarding potential passengers carrying crystal methamphetamine,” said Arief.

Arief said that currently his party was carrying out developments related to drug cases overflowing from the airport.

Arief continued, when viewed from the perpetrator’s ticket, both of them wanted to fly to Surabaya but the flight transited to Batam.

“One of the two perpetrators is an ASN Bali Transportation Agency, but so far we are trying to coordinate to ensure the truth,” said Arief.
