– There must have been a person inside the house who has been exposed to smoke. She has been confirmed dead in connection with that incident, says operations manager in the Eastern police district, Kristian Loraas to NRK.
The deceased is a lady in her 90s who lived at the address. The relatives have been notified of the death.
Life-saving first aid was launched on the spot, but life could not be saved.
Investigator on site
The police were notified of a fire in the home at Berg in Halden by the fire service at 18.15 on Thursday night.
When the emergency services arrived at the scene, it turned out that it was probably dry cooking that had led to the development of smoke.
An air ambulance was sent to Halden, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The doctor from the air ambulance assisted with health care.
– Do you know if the cause of death is the development of smoke?
– It is possibly a little early to say, but we are conducting tactical and technical investigations on the spot. Then we will clarify whether it is the main cause of death or not, but it probably has a connection, says Loraas.
