Quays in Delfzijl and Scheveningen have been flooded due to the persistent rain and storm Pia. Extra measures are also being taken in Egmond aan Zee for fear of high water.
According to forecasts, the water in Delfzijl will be 4.70 meters above Normal Amsterdam Level (NAP) on Friday morning, reports RTV Noord.
Guests of Hotel Boegvlucht in the Groningen municipality are advised to spend the night elsewhere, otherwise they may not be able to leave on Friday due to the high water. After 9 a.m. the water should recede again.
Quays in Scheveningen have been flooded. The Dr Lelykade, where a number of restaurants are located, is also under water.
In Egmond aan Zee, the Hollands Noorderkwartier Water Board expects the same situation. Several measures were already taken on Thursday, such as the deployment of dike surveillance and the closing of denominations (dyke breaks). Restaurants and beach pavilions have also laid down sandbags and concrete slabs, writes NH News.
The water is so high that the waves will probably crash over the beach entrance. A beach entrance may have wave overtopping. The Water Board reports that the dune is high enough and safe.
