Persija sack coach Angelo Alessio

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Persija Jakarta Officially fired coach Angelo Alessio after results that did not improve at the beginning of the second round of Liga 1 2021/2022.

Through the club’s official statement, Persija confirmed that the Kemayoran Tiger team had not used the services of Alessio.

“The management of Persija Jakarta and Angelo Alessio have agreed to end their cooperation towards the 21st week. The team’s performance has not improved despite the arrival of quality new players,” said Persija’s official statement.

After collecting 25 points in the first round of Liga 1 this season from six wins, seven draws and four defeats, Persija only added four points from the first three matches of the second round.

Had a 2-1 win over PSIS, Persija then lost 1-2 to Persipura Jayapura and were held to a 1-1 draw with Persela Lamongan.

“This decision was taken purely for professional reasons. Persija needs a change, and this is one part that must be passed to change Persija for the better,” said Club President Mohamad Prapanca.

“Apart from the unsatisfactory results, we also want to thank Angelo Alessio for daring to give Persija’s young players the opportunity to experience the atmosphere of Liga 1. This will be Persija’s foundation in building a team in the future. We also pray for Angelo for success in his future career,” continued Prapanca.
