“Perseverance Rover Finds Traces of Predatory River on Mars”

The Perseverance rover on Mars has found traces of a predatory river that experts say flowed there billions of years ago. This discovery could make us reconsider some views on the ancient history of the Red Planet.

Specifically, the rover found “a fan-shaped pile of sedimentary rock that is 820 feet high (approx. 250 meters, note ed.) and has curved layers”. They are said to indicate the former presence of running water.

Scientists also confirm their opinion with huge panoramas made up of hundreds of images taken by Perseverance, which show new details – typically large boulders.

“This indicates a high-energy river rushing through the landscape and carrying a lot of debris. The stronger the water flow, the easier it can move larger pieces of material.” she stated Libby Ives z Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

Of course, many questions remain unanswered: for example, what such a river could actually look like. But that’s not so important anymore.

“What’s really exciting about this is that we’ve entered a new phase in Crater Lake’s history,” she stated researcher Katie Stack Morgan. “We’re thinking about rivers on a different scale than we used to.”
