Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The peak of the Perseid meteor shower is predicted to take place tonight or Sunday (13/8/2023) in the morning. This phenomenon can be seen directly with the naked eye as long as the sky is clear.

This phenomenon can be seen at around 00.14-05.36 WIB. However, this phenomenon actually lasted for 16 hours.

The observation of the sky can be done with tools. For example by using a pair of binoculars or a small telescope.

In addition, observations can be made by visiting a place far from city light pollution. Meteor showers can be seen from any part of the sky, but are expected to appear from the constellation Perseus.

Meteors in this constellation will rise higher in the northwest. This is visible from Earth in the north.

The night sky when the peak of the meteor shower occurs will be very dark. Because at that time a crescent moon will appear that is waning by almost 8%.

The American Meteor Society’s report reveals that at its peak, up to 100 meteors will be seen per hour. Meteors will fall for at most one hour after midnight Sunday, quoted from Live Science, Saturday (12/8/2023).

For information, the Perseid meteor shower comes from a comet named 109P/Comet Swift-Tuttle. The comet orbits the Sun once every 133 years.

The Perseid meteor shower peaks at the same time as two other minor meteor showers. These are the Southern Delta Aquariids and Alpha Capricornids.
