Surabaya, CNN Indonesia —
One perpetrator of alleged vandalism of billboards from the PDI-Perjuangan (PDIP) DPP chairman Mrs. Maharani caught by the police. Puan’s billboard in Surabaya was crossed out with the words ‘PKI‘ and ‘Corrupt‘.
“It was secured last night,” said Head of Public Relations of the East Java Police, Kombes Gatot Repli Handoko, Tuesday (27/7).
Gatot said the perpetrator admitted that he only crossed out Puan’s billboards in the Surabaya City area. In Blitar, Puan’s billboard was crossed out with the word ‘Open BO’.
“Not [baliho yang dicoret] in Blitar,” said Gatot.
Meanwhile, the Surabaya City PDIP DPC administrator admitted that he had complained about the vandalism that hit Puan’s billboard to the Surabaya Police, Monday (26/7).
PAC PDIP chairman Bulak Riswanto said he was aware of the vandalism that took place on Saturday (24/7) night.
“We hope that the police will act, by arresting and legally processing PDIP’s property,” said Riswanto.
In the report, PDIP also presented witnesses, including Arif Wirawan (PDIP cadre), Agus Basuki (Chairman of PAC PDIP Mulyorejo) and Sunardi (Secretary of PAC PDIP Gubeng). They also brought evidence of a number of scribbled billboards.
“We took the evidence at a number of locations,” said advocate for BBHAR DPC PDIP Surabaya, Tomuan Sugiarto.
Previously, apart from being a victim of the ‘Open BO’ vandalism, billboards with pictures of Puan scattered in Surabaya were also crossed out with the words ‘PKI’ and ‘Corruption’.
DPD PDIP East Java also regretted the vandalism that occurred in Blitar and Surabaya. For them this is the work of irresponsible hands.
“We deeply regret the vandalism against Mrs. Puan Maharani’s billboards,” said the Chairperson of the East Java PDIP DPD, Kusnadi, Monday (26/7).
Whereas Puan’s billboards that were crossed out include campaigning for the use of masks, obeying health protocols, vaccination campaigns and maintaining body immunity.
“Moreover, the billboards contain positive messages to the public to comply with health protocols, such as wearing masks, inviting vaccinations, in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic,” he said.
