A perpetrator who stalked a teenager by following him for 15 minutes, talking to him, and obstructing his path was sentenced to a fine.

According to the legal community on the 27th, Chief Judge Kim Sang-il of Criminal Division 1 of the Seoul Central District Court sentenced Mr. A, who was sent to trial on charges of violating the Stalking Punishment Act, to a fine of 5 million won.

He was also ordered to complete 40 hours of stalking treatment program.

Mr. A is accused of following Ms. B, a teenager, for 1.2 km for about 15 minutes in Geumcheon-gu, Seoul around 10:30 pm in May last year.

When Ms. B tried to enter his house, he said, “Hey.” He then said, “How much does it cost for one night’s sleep?” and blocked Ms. B’s path by approaching her and talking to her.

The prosecution sent Mr. A to trial on charges of following Ms. B against her will without justifiable reason, blocking her path, and continuing to stalk her.

Chief Judge Kim pointed out, “Mr. A followed the victim for 10 minutes against his will and blocked her path, causing anxiety and fear in the victim, so the crime was not good and the guilt was heavy.”

At the same time, the reason for sentencing was stated, “The sentence is determined by taking into account the fact that Mr. A has not yet been punished for the same crime.”
