More details are becoming known about the perpetrator of the knife attack in Nice, which killed three people. According to papers from the Italian Red Cross in his pocket, this is a 21-year-old Tunisian. Prosecutor Jean-François Ricard of the French anti-terrorist prosecutor’s office said this at a press conference on Thursday evening. He confirms that the first elements of the investigation show that the papers do indeed belong to him.
The man was not known to the security services. On September 20 he had arrived in Italy for the first time via Lampedusa, and again on October 9 via the port of Bari, Ricard said. According to French media, he was arrested in Lampedusa and ordered to leave the territory. In October he illegally crossed the border into France.
The Attorney General asks the media not to publish the name of the perpetrator in order not to jeopardize the investigation.
