Major Sion Weil, a fighter in the Agoz unit, the commando formation, 20 years old from Ra’anana, died of his wounds after being injured on March 29 in a battle in the city of Khan Yunis in the southern Gaza Strip. Weil was injured by an RPG hit in an incident where Major Alon Kudriashov also fell and was laid to rest today.
His funeral will take place tomorrow at 17:00 at the military cemetery in Ra’anana.

In the battle at the Nasser Hospital, 16 more soldiers were wounded to varying degrees. The fighters carried out a wide activity in the area of the hospital and eliminated many terrorists.
Tio Dezian, Sion’s best friend, said: “Sion was my best friend. We liked to spend time together when we left the army. His dream was to serve in Agoz. He wanted to reach the combat elite in the army. He was a shy guy and we saw that since he arrived in Agoz he opened. He flourished in the army. He was wounded 3 months ago in Khan Yunis when he was there for over two months in a row. He recovered and he asked to return to the team as soon as possible. It was important for him to return to his friends in the team and not abandon them. He returned to Gaza last Saturday. Entry was delayed and we thought that we can celebrate Purim together. In the end, they came in and I told him that it’s small for him and we’ll celebrate when he comes out.”
Sion’s parents immigrated in 1998 from France. “We were together in the ‘French Jewish Scouts’ youth movement. He did the entire course of a trainee there. Every year he would fly to a summer camp in France.”
Sivan is survived by his parents, two brothers and a sister. “The family decided to donate his organs,” adds Theo. “They want as many people as possible to come to the funeral and with Israeli flags.”

Sivan was a student at Metrwest High School in Ra’anana who suffered a severe blow in the war. Six of its graduates were murdered or killed, and another graduate is still kidnapped in Gaza. Roi Marom, graduate of class 27, a fighter in the Harob Patrol, fell in battle in the Gaza Strip at the age of 21. Shiral Mor, a graduate of class 29, fell while being an observer in HML Nahal Oz at the age of 20. Sagi Golan, graduate of class 17, fighter Reservist in the Loter unit, fell in battle in Kibbutz Bari at the age of 31. Alon Verber, a graduate of the 22nd class, was murdered at the Nova festival at the age of 26.
