Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The hope that the Covid-19 pandemic will end soon is rising again. Originally, the final data was the final stage clinical trial results for the Covid-19 vaccine made by Modernda and Pfizer. The two are currently applying for an emergency use permit to the United States (US) Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The latest is news from Moderna which has just completed its final stage clinical trial in the US. This pharmaceutical giant claims its Covid-19 vaccine called mRNA-1273 is more than 94.1% effective in protecting the body from Covid-19 and is safe.
This data is not much different from the interim data published on 16 November. Monday US time, Moderna will enter data and apply for an emergency use permit with the FDA.
“This positive primary analysis confirms our vaccine’s ability to prevent Covid-19 disease with an efficacy of 94.1% and, most importantly, the ability to prevent severe Covid-19 disease,” said Stéphane Bancel, CEO of Moderna, as quoted by CNBC International, Tuesday (12/1/2020).
Another vaccine that could change the course of a pandemic is the BioNTech vaccine, which partners with Pfizer. The two companies have completed their final stage clinical trials in the US and on November 20 filed an emergency use permit with the FDA.
Pfizer and BioNTech claim the Covid-19 vaccine called BTN162b2 is 95% effective in preventing the body from being infected with the Covid-19 virus. This vaccine also has no harmful side effects.
If there are no obstacles, this month the two vaccines will start being used in the United States in the vaccination program. Both of them can start producing vaccines.
Moderna targets to produce 1 billion doses of Covid-19 vaccine by 2021, while Pfizer plans to produce 1.4 billion doses of vaccine. Both of these vaccines require two doses or two injections so that the body is optimally protected from Covid-19.
