4 min. Since November 8, 2023, the employees of SRW metalfloat in Espenhain have been on an indefinite strike for their collective bargaining agreement. They show that they care about participation, appreciation and respect 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In the middle © Anja Jungnickel
Kathrin Kroll sits in the strike container in front of the SRW metalfloat factory gate in Espenhain and talks about her everyday work. As a sorter, the 52-year-old stands on the assembly line for 40 hours every week at the scrap and recycling company north of Borna and picks metals: copper, brass, lead, steel, aluminum. “In heat and cold, dust, dirt and noise,” she says. She earns just 13.68 euros an hour, barely more than the minimum wage – which comes to around 1,800 euros net per month.
