A special concert program of the legendary rock band “Pērkons” will be played in Dzintari concert hall on September 4, where the band’s compositions will be performed for the first time together with the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra.
The compositions of the “Pērkons” group, specially arranged for the orchestra by Andris Sējāns, were chosen by Juris Kulakovs himself. “These pieces are composed according to the principle of academic music, and therefore grateful to be symphonized,” the composer explains his choice. In the program, the symphony orchestra will perform both the classic hits “Almost folk song”, “Ballade par gulbi”, “Balletomania”, “Green song”, “Dieniškā zisma” etc., as well as lesser-known pieces such as “Fly” and “Tram “.
“The group Pērkons is an icon of Latvian rock, formed by legendary personalities. The long-awaited first program with a symphony orchestra – who else [to spēlēs], if not the Liepaja Symphony!” says LSO director Uldis Lipskis, but Juris Kulakovs adds: “The program will differ from similar projects in that it will be the symphony orchestra and the group “Pērkons”, not the group “Pērkons” and the symphony orchestra. The emphasis is on the word “symphonized”: the symphony orchestra will play the music of “Thunder”.
It should be reminded that in the legendary Liepāja concert stage “Pūt, vējini!” the compositions of the band “Pērkons” will be played for the first time in the band’s history in the concert program of the symphony orchestra already on August 27.
