PULA, Croatia (AP) – Croatian forward Ivan Perišić tested positive for COVID-19 on Saturday and will miss a match against Spain in the round of 16 of the European Championship.
Perišić will have to be placed in isolation for 10 days, the Croatian team said in a statement. The rest of the team and the staff tested negative for the virus.
“The medical team isolated Ivan from the rest of the team members,” the Croatian team indicated, adding that: “they immediately and exhaustively informed the competent epidemiological authorities about the situation, providing evidence of compliance with all the necessary measures intended to protect against the spread of the coronavirus. “
Due to the Perišić quarantine period, the player would also miss the next two duels if the team that was a finalist in the last 2018 World Cup reaches the quarter-finals and semi-finals scheduled for July 6.
Perišić scored in Tuesday’s 3-1 win over Scotland, which did not feature Billy Gilmour after the midfielder tested positive. No other Scottish player was quarantined.
Croatia returned to their country after playing in Glasgow. The team, without Perišić, is scheduled to fly from Pula to Copenhagen on Sunday to face Spain the next day.
