A mega-project is being developed in the capital that will change the face of the country. This is the modern Lima and Callao Peripheral Ring Highway, 34.8 kilometers long, which will reduce transportation time and facilitate the interconnection of users with the Panamericana Norte, Panamericana Sur and the Central Highway.
The work will allow the efficient integration of the local road network, to improve vehicular circulation in Metropolitan Lima and Callao because it will also connect the avenues Circunvalación, Ramiro Prialé, Los Proceres de Independencia, Túpac Amaru, Av. Faucett, Av. Gambetta, among others. others.
With these connections, the Peripheral Road Ring will facilitate access to the megaprojects Muelle Sur of the port of Callao, the Muelle Norte, the Jorge Chávez International Airport, the Port of Chancay and the future Industrial Park of Ancón.
In this way, the execution of this mega highway project, which will have a total cost of US$ 3,400 million (US$ 2,300 in investment, US$ 800 million in land release and interference and US$ 300 million in other expenses), will consolidate transportation axes in the capital, allowing more fluid circulation of traffic, as well as reducing the average travel time and operating costs of heavy and light vehicles.
The new road will reduce travel time, for example, from Ate Vitarte to Independencia to only 15 minutes (currently it takes 60 minutes): From Ate Vitarte to San Juan de Lurigancho in 10 minutes and from San Juan de Lurigancho to Independencia in just 5 minutes.
INTERCONNECTION WITH URBAN TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM
The Peripheral Road Ring will also interconnect with the main urban transportation systems of Metropolitan Lima and Callao, benefiting the transportation of 4.5 million people. The modern highway will be interconnected with the following systems:
- Line 1 of the Lima Metro, at the San Carlos station, at the intersection of Av. Sol and Av. Próceres de la Independencia in San Juan de Lurigancho.
- Line 2 of the Lima Metro, at the intersection of Av. Separadora Industrial, continuation of Av. 22 de Julio and the Central Highway.
- With the Branch of Line 4 of the Lima Metro, at the intersection of Av. Faucett with Av. Canta Callao.
- Future Line 3 of the Lima Metro, at the intersection with Av. Naranjal.
- With the Metropolitan, at the intersection of Av. Naranjal and Av. Túpac Amaru.
- It will also be interconnected with the future cable car that will link the districts of San Juan de Lurigancho and Independencia. The cable car will go from the San Carlos station (intersection Av. Sol with Av. Próceres de la Independencia de San Juan de Lurigancho) to the Naranjal station (on Av. Tupac Amaru).
The interconnection of the Peripheral Road Ring project with other mass transportation systems in the city of Lima and Callao will improve the available infrastructure and will allow many families to have easier access and less travel time to institutions located within their area of influence: there are 2,017 schools, 67 health centers, shopping centers, recreation centers, among others.
Thus, the Peripheral Road Ring, in addition to building and/or improving 30 km of auxiliary roads, will allow efficient connection with the logistics centers of foreign trade (ports and airports) and the circulation of BTR (Bus Rapid Transit) Corridors; It will also be compatible with the environment, since green areas will be enabled on the 35 kilometers of the modern road. In sum, it will reduce the transportation infrastructure gap in Peru by 13%.
